Party and relax as much as you work. That's a good advice we often get from seasoned individuals called life mentors. They can be an office boss, a college professor or a trusted relative. In my case, it was a recently departed auntie of mine who used to opine that there was no point in earning money if one didn't get to spend it. According to her, I should always have time for the daily grind and time for play. Now that I'm on freelance schedule, I still set a few days of my week to find the best spots for unwinding. Such latest discovery led me an hour away from Quezon City's Cubao, up the hillside of Antipolo City's long and winding Sumulong Highway in Barangay Mambugan. Called Cafe Lupe Hostel & Restaurant, the getaway is a dining destination, budget hotel, and party venue all in one!

Change of Location
The whole complex is family-run and, as a result, has a touch of down-home hospitality. I happened to learn from one of the relatives of the owners who's at the helm of operations that dining patrons have been coming back since 2009 when the establishment was re-opened in this side of Rizal. From its original location in Makati City along Guadalupe Bridge where Metro Manila's biggest advertising billboards are, it now comfortably sits at a cliff along Sumulong Highway just past the Mambugan Barangay Hall after Marcos Highway.
Bed & Breakfast, Plus More
More than being a pet-friendly restaurant, it also caters to travelers who are on overnight or long stays in the area. On certain occasions, its function halls -- a couple of private indoor space and a sensational rood deck -- serve as milestone venues for special events such as reunions, birthdays, movie or TV show shoots, etc.

The Magnate Behind The Cafe
Established in 2003 by outdoor advertising magnate, Alvin Carranza, Cafe Lupe breathes new life into a short strip of Antipolo City, making it an exciting getaway destination that engages the senses. As a devotee of the Lady of Guadalupe, his vision of a restaurant that serves fantastic food with quality entertainment is realised in a scale that sizzles at night.
An Overnight Stay At The Overlooking Room
I experienced a comfortable overnight stay one weekday at Cafe Lupe Hostel & Restaurant's Overlooking Room. It's the most unique of all the eight rooms as it has an exclusive veranda that shares the same stunning view of the Ortigas Center skyline. The plush queen-size bed perfectly fits the space which has its own bathroom and other reliable room features such as a flat screen TV, complimentary bottles of water, complimentary 3-in-1 coffee, etc. On weekends, room rate's at P3,800. It's worth a thousand pesos more on weekends. There are other room types that are more affordable at P2,800 per night.

Guest Lounge Area
The communal space downstairs serves as the lounge area for guests to play billiards, go online at the computer station, read magazines or simply hang out with other guests. Its windows can be opened at big band nights to be a great vantage point for watching live band performances of adult contemporary genre.
Live Band and Videoke
During my stay, I decided to work the semi-al fresco space outside where dining guests occupied seats for a closer experience of the performing band. The night spot was also alive across the other building of the complex where the KTV rooms are. It was obvious that locals and visitors from neighboring cities were spending amusing hours of quality videoke for the group package of P300 per hour that's consumable (with a variety food and drink sets to choose from).

The next day, I managed to hie off to Pinto Art Museum that's just roughly 30 minutes away from Cafe Lupe. It's also accessible to other nearby tourist destinations like the Antipolo Cathedral and the city proper itself where the local delicacy of suman can be emjoyed.
Cafe Lupe Hostel & Restaurant is worth your impromptu visit any day of the week for a lot of reasons. It's accessible and Instagram-worthy, two qualities that appeal to a lot of people these days. As my auntie used to tell me, live a balanced life. Work hard, dine out, and relax. It's the way we should all be mentoring our own lives.
