I consider my recent television appearance on GMA News TV’s Poptalk as one of the best birthday gifts that I’ve received so far. Who wouldn’t want to work with ace host Tonipet Gaba, right? I might have pursued the endeavor without much consideration to the stress of taping involved since I’m a non-celebrity and more of a laid-back travel blogger. After going through the experience, I managed to perceive celebrities with more respect. For what it was worth, the boob tube exposure hopefully introduced TuristaTrails.com to new readers.
Hotel Staycation Shoot
Any promotion for the travel blog is worth doing especially if it’s on a television format. Plus, guesting as a blogger reviewer of hotels seemed only natural to me because it’s what I’ve been doing for the online platform for the past 3 years anyway. I honestly thought I would breeze through the one-day shoot in Metro Manila, covering 3 hotels even with the prevailing traffic. It’s safe to say that I did because the program was shown on the same day of my birthday and I did not get edited out. As I realised, being on cam was not that easy.

The Challenge and Saving Grace
At the onset, the task was exciting, but as the hours went by I felt the challenge of having to perform on camera with my two co-reviewers – the brilliant actors Bettina Carlos and Rafa Siguion-Reyna. The saving grace was probably being in a familiar situation which was trying to discover a new hotel and what it could offer potential guests. Thank goodness for the old world charm of the Henry Hotel Manila! Being at the set still felt like second skin to me. My Poptalk shoot sort of just became part of my travel itinerary for the day.
Pleasant In The City
It was not hard feeling pleasant inside the compound of the hotel in old F.B. Harrison. Outside, though, the highly urbanized area was toxic
the premises of the , the experience was
completely different. I was welcomed by age-old trees. The surrounding was
surprisingly breezy, luxurious, and quite interesting. The vintage elegance was
palpable everywhere from the two-storey houses that reminded me of my
grandparents to the showroom of eclectic and artsy finds. Henry
It’s easy to agree why foreign guests prefer it over a lot of classic hotels in the area because it has the charm of being at home in the middle of the city. With amenities such as its scenic garden pool, a meeting room called The Library, and its own restaurant called
Apartment 1B that serves gourmet dishes,
the venue is a destination within a destination.
