Inspired to experience a venue that’s as chilly as Tagaytay City and with a distant view of the Taal Volcano, I left smog-filled and frenetic Metro Manila for the misty embrace of Nasugbu, a town next to the famous summer destination. Holed in at a cozy studio Log Cabin in Batangas’ Chateau Royale Nature Park Resort (CRNPR), I kept my distance from the prying eyes of friends and relatives for three satisfying days to secure a self-imposed retreat prior to my birthday month of March.

Better Batangas Tour Continuation

CRNPR was perfect for my intrepid quick getaway. It’s just less than 2 hours from Pasay City where I boarded a Nasugbu-bound DLTB Bus which conveniently let me step inside the highway-accessible entrance of the resort. The 15-hectare estate responded well to my weekday yearning for rest and leisure. Although it has a hotel with suite rooms, I opted for a cabin-type of crib for privacy.

Man Cave For The Week

The roughly 30-square meters of space was enough man cave for the week. A big LCD flat screen TV accentuated the pristine white interiors of the room which supported the similar white exterior of the cabin. A comfy sofa served well as a working space where, next to it, I placed my laptop on a side table and wrote my pending travel chronicles. The decent natural light from the couple of decent-sized windows allowed for a cozy getaway regardless of the time of the day. I had those shutters wide open at daytime and I bravely kept them opened at night. It was good that my booked cabin’s location was right next to an adequately lit tree.

Rate Extras and More

For a little more than the P6,000-worth published rate, I found my stay rewarding especially since it came with free breakfast at the resort’s F&B facility called The Veranda, plus access to the resort swimming pool.  I happened to have spotted an organic vegetable farm in the premises of the estate which, a staff member shared, serves produce at the resort restaurant and even sells the rest at the public market. The best part of being booked at CRNPR was finally getting my chance at a side trip to the nearby Caleruega Church.

In the morning, when the sun hit Nasugbu’s side at the resort, I went around and checked out the other amenities that includes a surprising massive rock-climbing wall. What did not surprise me anymore at the high-altitude location was the heavy presence of mist in certain times of the day, especially during breakfast. I recall tearing into my plate of delicious tocino with a view of the resort swimming pool that seemed right out of a Tim Burton movie. Fog was everywhere to my delightful sips of hot barako coffee. I reckoned that I did not have to go as far North as Baguio City to experience pine trees and the cold climate.

Side Trips To Caleruega and Bag of Beans

Aside from visiting the nearby Caleruega Church, I had a necessary coffee fix at the nearest Bag of Beans branch from the resort, 15 minutes away via jeepney or bus ride. I had a tall glass of Iced White Mocha to soothe my nerves as the area could be extremely hot in the afternoon.

During check-out, I learned from the Front Desk that there is an ongoing 35% discount promo on published Log Cabin and hotel suite rooms. No wonder there was also a batch of hundreds of high school students from Lipa City on a weekday retreat the same day I was checked-in.

My Smoked Longganisa Breakfast
The highlight of my stay at CRNPR was basically being laid back. It was an inspiring venue for clearing the mind as it let me focus on my online writing obligations for three sweet days. Sometimes, the secret to being still is not basically doing nothing. It’s as simple as finding a sound spot to move around in without the toxic burdens of the frenetic city life. No heavy traffic. Just nature, the cabin, and myself.
