Next to the baywalk of Sabang Beach is where I stayed for my Aurora immersion, particularly at the gorgeous Costa Pacifica. Bereft of listlessness after a few hours of seeing the scenic Sierra Madre, the beach, and my wonderful accommodation, I was dragged by a friend to a nearby grilling station that, according to him, serves one of the best by-the-shore barbecues in Baler -- the Baler Surfer Grill (BSG).

Stoked by seeing surfers do their stuff at the beach and by the fine weather in general, I prepared my taste buds for a sampling of great food that the only car grill in the town can offer. Enhanced by the tropical ambiance of the al fresco setup, the dining experience at Baler Surfer Grill was remarkably enjoyable.

The idea is for surfers or beach goers to literally resurface from getting wet at the beach, sit at any of the wooden chairs under the prominent coconut tree next to the rustic restaurant's outdoor grilling station via the yellow-painted Volkswagen, and eat any of BSG's best-sellers.

Simple, right? Laid-back? Definitely!

The pride of BSG is not just the fresh catch for seafood or the juicy-liciously grilled barbecues. When I started sampling our orders, I knew that it had to be the house sauce for distinctively tasting home-made, not of factory-quality. The special homemade sauce can be had with the order of any barbecue treat -- bulalo, pork or chicken. BSG's Chicken Barbecue is highly recommended as it's the best that I've tasted in the roster of grilled delights that afternoon.

Another treat is the special home-made aligue sauce that's served to enhance the mouth-watering taste of BSG's Grilled Fish. The order comes with grilled treats of eggplant, green chili, and red tomato, plus a cup of rice.

For standard meals, customers can choose between a Surfer Meal-Beginner for no more than P90 and a Surfer Meal-Pro served on a chopping board for no more than P200. Any which way one goes, the surf-eat-enjoy credo of Baler Surfer Grill can be truly experienced on site. One can simply stroll along Sabang Beach's baywalk to discover it.
