October 16 of this year was a milestone for 17 chefs, cooks, and kitchen staff of The Buffet International Cuisine. It was when the palatial and opulent interiors of the Quezon City-based dining venue opened for guests to partake of various cuisines from 30 shortlisted countries. The event was called "The Buffet's Grand Food-Tasting -- The Whole Wide World On Your Plate."

The Big Night

I was in the middle of the gustatory action at Commonwealth near the UP Technohub when dining guests from different walks of life came in throngs to celebrate the affair with the restaurant. For this second visit, I made sure to sample dishes that I failed to taste the last time. I was confident that the best of The Buffet will be featured that night anyway since the day was a special occasion. After all, the real stars of the feast -- the dishes -- were only prepared in a day.

Guests were engaged to participate at the pre-dinner show and staff members of the restaurant also joined in the revelry with dance numbers.

Ready. Get Set. Feast.

The go-signal to feast on the plethora of food choices came when the Baked Alaska dessert set was paraded on cue. Soon, my plate was filled with the elusive (occasionally served) Lechon Belly and the Chinese Pork Char Sui. There was a Peking Duck, but I had the other guests tear into it instead. As expected, there were various selections for pasta that could be cooked on the spot.

Prizes and Surprises Galore

As part of the celebration, discount certificates were raffled away to lucky guests from supportive corporate partners. The highlight of the raffle was the giving away of a travel package for 2 people.

I may not have won any, but I had the chance to be interviewed by IBC-13 about the food-tasting event. It was the way of the night to provide me of my own time to shine I guess. I recall giving the whole selection of The Buffet International Cuisine a rating of 9 out of 10. A good establishment always leaves room for improvement even if delicious perfection is just a notch away.

Event and Catering

For interested parties, function rooms are available for free at the second floor of the establishment under dining package rates categorized as Grand Ballroom (for more than 200 guests), Platinum (for more than 100 guests), Diamond (can sit 80 guests) and Conference Room (for business meetings). The use of the rooms won't set you back a cent. You only have to avail of a dining package per function room. The rates already include provision and set up of the sound system.
