Tarlac is no longer just a transit point of travelers to and from the North and Manila, respectively. In case you don't know yet, Tarlac is also a dining destination by day and it gets electric at night. The adventure is not exclusive to food though. At Kart City, the province finds a convergence of different guests, young and old alike, fixated at the thrilling experience of riding at the go-kart trail and indulging in tasty cravings at Chap's Diner.
"I Love Tarlac!" Blog Series Tour
I recently visited the province and had a special dinner at Chap's Diner in Kart City for my "I Love Tarlac!" Blog Series Tour. I happened to learn from the person at its helm, Pio Arugay, that the restaurant started as a snack joint where residents of Tarlac City and neighboring municipalities would get together for good food. Soon, the property accommodated the go-kart adventure ride and expanded to house more entertainment venues. It's scheduled to expand itself more with additional space this year.

Looking like a cruise ship that's amusement-filled in every corner, the dining and adventure destination sits near Microtel Inn & Suites By Wyndham-Luisita where I stayed as my hotel base for my blog series tour. I arrived with friends from a fun ride of the all-terrain vehicle (ATV) of the Capas ATV Adventure at dinner time to be welcomed by Mr. Arugay and his friends from the tourism office.
Over traditional Filipino and Thai-inspired cuisine, we discussed the promising potential of Tarlac as a tourism destination. According to our host, what Chap's Diner, Kart City, and Tarlac are to many can be summed up in two words -- melting pot. Where we were dining could actually be the essential convergence of every Central Luzon province. They reckon to have the best of Pampanga, Zambales, and Nueva Ecija.
True enough, dinner at Chap's Diner did not disappoint. After an adrenalin-pumping ATV ride, I deserved a hefty dinner. What I tore into that night was the best of Tarlac's night life -- the traditional crispy pata. We were also served yummy Thai-oriented dishes such as a hot and sour Tom Yum Soup, a filling Bagoong Fried Rice (inspired by the original Thai dish called Khao Kluk Kapi) and Thai Pork Crackling, a plate of savory Thai Seafood Curry and a set of juicy Pandan-wrapped Chicken.
Strangers No More
What started as a meeting of strangers at 8:00pm, led to a wonderful bond with reputable people from Tarlac later in the evening. I begged off riding the go-kart that night because I will surely return to Tarlac with that in mind. A return is definitely in the offing.
