Ube Cheesecake

Many people have tried avocado for dessert. However, not many have heard of avocado as a tasty piece of cake. In Pasig City's dine-out district called Kapitolyo where I spent most of my formative years, Lia's Cakes In Season (LCIS) managed to stand out from a glut of other eateries, upscale restaurants, and snack joints by featuring the avocado cake as its signature product.

Avocado Craving Solved!

Whenever I needed an emotional boost, I head over to LCIS to celebrate God's blessings over a cup of coffee and a piece of avocado cheesecake. It's my ultimate favorite cake flavor as it's inventive and able to reconcile my craving for avocado which is known to be a seasonal fruit. This means that I had to contend with months when I couldn't have avocado for snack. The good news is that LCIS is just 20 minutes away from the city proper of Pasig where I reside and there's always a cheesecake flavor of it!

It was actually one of my memorable dining visits last summer when I had my staycation and hotel review duty of the newly-opened Privato Hotel and Piazza Privato.

Ube Cheesecake Challenge

Recently, LCIS invited me to try its newest cheesecake selection called the Ube Cheesecake. My parents love ube and ice cream so much that I've imbibed the craving. With this cheesecake flavor, it's like tasting both ice cream and ube at the same time. This one that I sampled is a traditional delicacy of ube that's mixed with cream cheese on a crust of crumbly polvoron.

According to LCIS, the biggest challenge is the inventory control since the fruits used as raw materials are fresh ones and they are known to have short shelf lives. The schedule of production is always taken into consideration to make sure that the products are fresh.

How LCIS Started

I also learned during my visit of the cozy snack nook that the avocado cake is a treasured family recipe of the owner. It was invented by his grandmother in the 1960s and perfected by his mom eventually in the 1990s. Over the course of a decade, since opening in December 8, 2004 in East Capitol Drive, the shop has grown to offer other cake variants such as chocolate, cheesecake, and sans rival.

The Filling and Tasty Adobo Pasta

I also tried LCIS' Pork Adobo Pasta because I haven't had lunch yet. I figured that a pasta of that rice meal character could really be filling. Although it's pasta and in adobo flavor, the treat just had enough spice to it that awakened my afternoon. It was utterly delicious! I won't mind ordering it three times a week there.

Small Neighborhood Charm

The store is just small but compensates with a friendly neighborhood charm that I've experienced countless of times growing up in Barangay Kapitolyo. I would always sit next to the big store window, takes sips of hot coffee, and taste sweet and creamy bliss as I watch other residents and visitors go about their own lives in the peaceful location.

The lovely house where I used to live in Kapitolyo is no longer there, along with my great grandparents and grandparents. It has long been abandoned. What have remained are good memories of my childhood that continue to boost their legacy in me as a person, the same way that Lia's Cakes In Season has managed to forge memorable engagements with its patrons one piece of cake at a time.
