Pangat Na Ulang

C U I S I N E

Bulo can mean a lot in Filipino dialects. In Tagalog, it can mean to decapitate. In another local language, it can mean to refer to the hair covering of some fruits or leaves. In the popular Capampangan restaurant Binulo's case, it's about the process of food being cooked inside a bamboo or bulo. I literally found out about this during my visit of the dining venue for the Metro Angeles Food Tour 2014.

Authentic Local Dishes At The Zone

Binulo Restaurant is famous in Pampanga for serving authentic Capampangan cuisine and more. Guests who usually check in at a hotel at the Clark Freeport Zone like what we did at Widus Hotel & Casino, no longer have to leave the area for a sampling of favorite local dishes like sisig and paco salad.

Appetizing Dinner

We headed to the restaurant for dinner one drizzling night. I was amazed to see how spacious the venue was inside. I reckon that a folk group could have even performed cultural dances in the middle of the dining area with that enough space.

I found the interior decoration a bit charming but not imposing. The huge woven leaf wall display created texture on the bare cemented walls. I also fancied seeing seemingly old and rustic pieces of furniture.

Soon, my group of travel and food bloggers were all over the medley of local dishes that were served to us starting with the appetizing Paco Salad, the suman-look-alike Binulong Nasi (pre-cooked rice), Shrimp Okoy, and Sizzling Sisig.

Main Course and Dessert

The hefty viands came next. I actually got filled with the Crispy Binagoongan right away. Tearing into it was bliss. Since I'm not really into seafood, I sampled a taste of the Pangat Na Ulang with full abandon. I also tried the Kare-kare.

For dessert, the group had to scramble for the limited serving of the sweet Suman with Mango Ice Cream.

Binulo Restaurant is just along the Manuel Roxas Highway, so it's not easy to miss. It's worth a dining visit when in Pampanga.
