I was recently tapped as a participating blogger for the Metro Angeles Food Tour 2014 organized by various reputable travel bloggers from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. The privilege to sample the best of Pampanga cuisine was something that I first experienced last year with the restaurant of my college classmate at the University of Santo Tomas when she opened the doors of her San Fernando-based restaurant, Nona's Kitchen to me.

Less Than An Hour From Metro Manila
It was then when I realised how comfortably close the province is to Metro Manila. My classmate boasted how she would go to Divisoria in the morning and be back to cook at her restaurant before lunch time. It turned out that, after a few road improvements, a commute to Pampanga doesn't have to be more than one hour.
3-Day Food Tour Base
For the 3-day food tour, we had to be in the city center most of the time. As pivot, we needed a pleasant stay at a hotel that was to be our home away from home. It had to have the luxury of 5-star amenities like an elegant swimming pool designed to inspire green sensibilities of the outdoor space. It had to be Widus Hotel and Casino.
The Clark Freeport Zone-based Widus Hotel and Casino is a destination in itself. Not anymore just a stopover for those flying off to nearby provinces via the Clark International Airport (CIA), the 3-clustered establishment boasts of top-rate reasons why a guest should stay for more than a day. Rated as a Deluxe Class Hotel by the Department of Tourism, it has also been rated under the radar of the prestigious online travel portal, TripAdvisor, to be one of the top 13 luxury hotels and top 25 hotels in the Philippines for 2013. The accreditation certificate is certainly a good boost for a hotel that needs to stand out from a landscape of thriving hospitality hubs.
Starting to become Central Luzon's one-stop leisure destination, Widus Hotel and Casino has its signature food and beverage outlet in Salt Resto where Korean, Hongkong dimsum, Japanese, Italian, Western and Filipino cuisine are at their finest. Dining is certainly well complemented by multi-featured rooms that are essentially equipped with amenities and furnishings above and beyond most hotel offerings in the Clark Freeport Zone. Understandably so, it is of high-end quality for being one of top-rate hotels in the Fuego Hotels chain lineup. The presence of Prism Lounge next to the hotel's restaurant is a bonus for those who prefer to party the night away.
Visible from my Executive Room accommodation with fellow travel bloggers Will and Adrian of Will Explore Philippines were huge, century-old canopy trees. And from my assigned bed, the bathroom interiors could be seen through a glass partition designed to evoke transparency. If I were to stay alone in the room for my next visit, I'd appreciate the romantic rendition as more of a security guarantee because I easily get claustrophobic. With the bedroom being visible from the bathroom, I always feel calm and not looking out for intruders. This is probably why I leave the bathroom door opened in all of my hotel stays in Luzon.
I remember the hotel lobby to be visually stunning as guests were welcomed with natural light upon arrival. Unlike in similar rated hotels, its modern Asian-designed lobby works well enough to exude distinction of stay with its high ceiling and vastness of space for natural ventilation. There are a lot of vantage spots for scenery-viewing within the hotel grounds.
Room Rate Inclusions
Room rates include an access to breakfast for 2 people, a complimentary newspaper, welcome drinks, a couple of complimentary bottles of mineral water, access to the pool area and a parking slot. Each room also has a coffee-making facility which worked well for me since I always want to have a night cap on my bed before sleeping.

Formerly opened in 2008 as Hotel Vida, the property has elegantly evolved to be the luxurious destination that it is today. With the glut of accommodation venues in Pampanga, Widus Hotel and Casino definitely offers a distinct and remarkable experience that stays with guests. Perhaps, what they will remember upon checkout is the sense of belonging to a comfortable stay that's synonymous to the "with us" quip.
