I recently kicked off my "I Love Manila" Blog Series Tour with a check in at Microtel Suites By Wyndham-Mall of Asia. It was to be my hotel base for my 2-day tour of Manila that culminated with a participation in Manila Bulletin's annual sketchfest. The highlight was the cultural and modern Jeepney Tours ride of Roxas Boulevard and the district of Intramuros.
An Upgrade To A Corner View Room
Originally booked for a standard Double Room with a sunset view, overlooking the Mall of Asia By The Bay where the giant Ferris Wheel is, I got excited to experience another room -- the Double Room Corner View. The corner view room has the feel of being inside a cruise ship but with the generosity of a luxurious space. The rustic, warm-looking Tuscan red shutters of two window panes offered me the chance to view the outdoors from my comfortable bed in two directions. With those widely opened, the natural light gave my indoor time enough sense of balance from my hectic set of appointments.
I had a delicious lunch of Seafood Marinara and watermelon juice at the hotel's affiliate restaurant, Millie's All Day Dining. Located at the ground floor, the restaurant is a seamless floor space with the hotel lobby. It makes dining at the restaurant all the more inviting, away from the hassle of walking to the neighboring Mall of Asia for meals. My accommodation included hefty buffet-style servings for breakfast. Read all about it here.
Customer Satisfaction Is A Priority
Unlike in other branches, the SM Mall of Asia complex-based hotel has more modern facilities that included touch screen elevator panels and nifty flash light-ready rooms. The rest of the room features are evidences of the Microtel standard which is about none of the unnecessary and useless frills. Everything inside the hotel has meaning and purpose for the benefit of the guest.
All guestroom features include a decent LCD TV, chiropractor-approved mattresses, individually controlled air conditioning unit, full-sized bathroom with options for hot and cold showers, hair dryer, electronic keycard entry system, radio clock, mini-refrigerator, safety deposit box, fully automated fire safety system and window seat. Baby cribs are available upon request. For kids aged no more than 11 years old (maximum of 2) who will be sharing a room with adults, the accommodation is free of charge.
I did not have a hard time finding the hotel because it's conveniently located next to the Shrine of Jesus Church and near the SMX Convention Center inside the same sprawling complex.
Taxi cabs are also accessible at the hotel lobby as most of them drop off mall guests and usually will need to go around the property for the exit turn where the hotel is close in proximity to. I simply had the security guard at the entrance hail one for me more than once for my tour sessions while I waited at the air conditioned lobby.
With the Manila Bay and a giant mall next to the hotel, I had most of the luxury of a decent accommodation and less of the unwanted decadence.
