Visiting the plains of Nueva Ecija one time, I was invited by Microtel Suites Inn-Cabanatuan City to dine at one of their city's pride -- a slightly quirky restaurant and hangout place (as it has a billiard pool inside) with remnants of old bodegas (storages), stores, and houses.
The place is called Hapag Vicenticos and it's smack dab in the middle of city. It's just a 2-3 minute ride away from the hotel. I was fond of one of the restaurant's dining table which was actually a piece of sewing machine. The walls of the place were adorned with trinkets from the past, present, and future. The interior design reminds of quaint provincial houses what with all the tisa windows. The lighting fixtures weren't shabby as they complemented the HapagVicenticos very well.
Arriving At The Site
I was on a tour of Nueva Ecija that time and tagged along another blogger to share in the experience. We were the only ones dining that weekday night since it was almost 9:00pm. There were a few kids at the billiard pool area, but that was about it. The place was quiet... until the Hapag Vicenticos food selection came one by one.
Then Came The Food
I remember the crispy pata coming in like a king as it was introduced by the Microtel Suites Inn representative to be very delicious and a favorite among locals in the city. And it should feel like a king at a cost of P400 LOL! I hardly had the chance to tear into most of the crispy pata as I tried to save space for the other viands coming our way. The classic kare-kare (curry; P480) was also served to us with enough vegetables to last me two days. The restaurant calls their version Krispy Kare-kare. I also remember sampling Hapag Vicenticos' chopsuey (P130) which tasted just right, not too salty and too bland.
Dining at Hapag Vicenticos actually made me feel homey as it looked like a home, with curtains and all. I just wonder what it looks like during the day as our visit was way past my dinner time.
