Swimming pool by the cliff
December is the month for reunions in the Philippines. It's the the time when most vacation leave credits are used and long weekends are made in order.

In my family and relatives' case, our small reunion happened yesterday at a rest house in Antipolo. It was only a reunion of two main families so the setup was an afternoon swimming pool dip.

Sunset over at Antipolo with a view of the distant Ortigas business center

The Sunday weather was pleasant so I figured it was a nice opportunity to take photos especially after hearing from my relatives about how the view of Antipolo and Ortigas Center was nice from the rest house. I originally thought that the place was going to look like one of those nondescript vacation houses in Pansol, Laguna. All cement. No character. I was crossing my fingers when we were on our way to the rest house.

To my surprise, the rest house was charming. It's got the garden that I wanted to walk around in if ever I had my own house. The garden was not well manicured that time but I could tell how so much thought and planning went on in the landscaping when the house was being conceptualized and built. The doctor owner has not been spending his time at the house for years which explains the overgrown vines. A caretaker family was given the task to maintain it.

Roaming around the small property, I noticed some old stuff and displays that were not being given the visual highlight that they deserved. There was a bas relief display set against a wall that was being partially hidden by an ugly modern music player. However, there were several paintings that were hung in the hallways that gave us the glimpse of the owner's taste in art. I loved the small space where an altar was setup. It was complimented by a huge wooden divider that softened the lighting that was coming in from the outside.

The best part of the rest house was the ordinary-looking swimming pool by the cliff of the property. Everything was on the hillside so taking a dip in the pool allowed us to see nothing but lush green of trees on the foreground and the silhouette of the distant Ortigas Center which appeared very long from where we were. The view became even more spectacular during sunset.

I would have stayed the New Year's Eve there to witness the fireworks, but we had to leave and go on Skype video with US-based relatives back at home in Metro Manila.

    1. I guess rest houses of relatives are way better than resorts there.
